Basic Clinical Skills Curriculum Teaching Modules
The Basic Clinical Skills Curriculum Teaching Modules, written by members of APGO's Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC), offer a complete guide for teaching basic clinical and surgical skills to third-year medical students in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The skills highlighted on this site are based on recommendations from the AAMC Project on the Clinical Education of Medical Students and a review of current published curricular guides.

The modules are intended to be comprehensive covering a full range of required surgical skills. These modules may also be useful for educators as resources for curriculum development.

Medical Student Objectives

Medical Student Educational Objectives, 9th edition
We are pleased to offer a new 9th edition of the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives. The Objectives are revisited on a regular basis to ensure their relevance, importance and usefulness in assisting with the development of obstetrics and gynecology clinical clerkship curricula. To develop this major revision, the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) edited the 8th edition to ensure coverage of significant changes in the field. A team of ob-gyn clerkship directors and medical educators from the U.S. and Canada have had input into the current edition and its format with the goal of making these objectives as useful as possible for clerkship directors, faculty and medical students.

Created with the new Educational Objectives is a Ob-Gyn Student Logbook. This book was developed as an example of how to incorporate the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives into a logbook/tracking system. The logbook utilizes the core 17 objectives as outlined in the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives 9th Edition as a framework for the various patient-care activities that a clerkship director may require of their students on the ob-gyn clerkship. Using this logbook assures that students are exposed to the essential educational objectives established by the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC).

The 9th edition of the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives and Ob-Gyn Student Logbook were created by the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) 2008-2010.

Residency Directory
The APGO Directory of Residencies is a database widely used by third and fourth-year medical students and advisors to compare and assess residency programs.

uWISE
The APGO Undergraduate Web-Based Interactive Self-Evaluation (uWISE) exam was developed to help medical students acquire the necessary basic knowledge in obstetrics and gynecology, regardless of future medical specialty choice. The quizzes are also an excellent tool to help prepare for the NBME ob-gyn subject exam and national licensure examinations.

The uWISE questions are based on and linked to the 8th edition of the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives. Each quiz represents one Objective and contains 10 questions for each Objective. Reports on student performance and comparisons to the national mean are automatically e-mailed twice a year, in January and June.

Access to the quizzes is through a department subscription. Click below for information on how to subscribe, to view a sample quiz or a sample report, or to examine ways that students and faculty can utilize the uWISE questions.

Women's Health Care Competencies for Medical Students
The APGO Women's Health Care Competencies are available on the APGO Web site in a searchable format. The Women's Health Online Curriculum Builder allows users to build specialized curricula using a tool called MyCurriculum from learning objectives they select, similar to adding items to an online shopping cart.

Women with Disabilities Education Program
The Women with Disabilities Education Program, administered by APGO, provides continuing medical education to inform, expand, update and illustrate state-of-the-art health care services for women with disabilities.

Two parallel educational series are being developed—one for health care professionals and one for women with disabilities—to improve the way health care is provided for women with disabilities and to provide self-management tools for patients. It is intended that the materials be utilized across disciplines.

Two educational modules in the series are now available: Introduction to Women with Disabilities and Communication. Each module offers PowerPoint slides and discussion questions. A module on Breast Care is underway; other important topics are planned for the future.
