After reading the pamphlets, preceptors will be able to develop a framework for teaching students about accountability and sensitivity in providing evidence-based, equitable care to patients. In addition, they will be able to provide students with tools to develop self-awareness and engage in meaningful conversations about bias in health care.

These pamphlets are formatted as easy-to-read PDFs and are available for free download by APGO members.

Pamphlets included are:

  • Educator’s Guide to Using the APGO Bias Awareness Management Series
  • Care of Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Persons
  • Approach to the Care and Treatment of Patients with High BMI
  • Race Bias Mitigation in Ob-Gyn 

APGO recognizes that bias can manifest in many more forms. APGO UMEC plans to build on the series by introducing additional topics where bias awareness mitigation is paramount.

These communities were created to give APGO members from different groups within the ob-gyn medical education space a place to connect with their peers and share information. 

If you belong to one of these listservs or would like to join, here are a few best practices to keep in mind when posting:

  • State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search by subject.
  • Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information that benefits everyone. Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals—not to the entire list. Do this by using your e-mail application's forwarding option and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you want to respond. Remember, clicking on “Reply” sends the message to the Discussion List, not the Sender.
  • Listserv member requests to complete should be limited to two posts, one initial post and one follow-up.
  • Be courteous and allow others to have their say. Do not attack others. The purpose of this list is to encourage discussion, not start fights.
  • APGO reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these guidelines.

This resource, now in its 12th edition, is reviewed on a regular basis by the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) to ensure their relevance, importance, and helpfulness in assisting with the development of ob-gyn clinical clerkship curricula.  

The 12th edition includes 64 allopathic and osteopathic educational topics, with companion teaching cases and a student logbook. The curriculum content can be expanded or modified based upon program needs. Access to the APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives, Teaching Cases (Faculty version), and the Curriculum Builder remain an APGO-member benefit. Click here to learn more.

New! Student access to the APGO MSOs and Teaching Cases has been moved to the APGO eLearning Portal to support APGO uWISE and APGO PrepforRes practice quiz and exam prep. ]]> Thu, 17 Apr 2025 17:17:00 GMT APGO Releases Updated Educational Modules on Responsible Engagement with Industry https://apgo.org/news/news.asp?id=681497 https://apgo.org/news/news.asp?id=681497 CROFTON, MD, September 6, 2024 – The Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) is pleased to announce the release of the APGO Educational Modules on Responsible Engagement with Industry. These modules are an update of the 2014 APGO Interactions with Industry modules and were developed to support APGO’s Industry Relations Policy, which was adopted by the APGO Board of Directors in 2012.

This educational resource provides information about interactions with industry that commonly occur in the medical field and provides learners with guidelines for responsible practices and relationships. Each of the four modules includes a slide deck, a case study, and a quiz. Members of the APGO Corporate Liaison Council, Board of Directors, Development Committee, and staff collaborated in several meetings in 2022-2023 to review and update the learning resources for each module.

“We are pleased to provide guidelines to ensure appropriate and beneficial interactions with industry in the medical field,” said Molly Georgakis, CAE, APGO Executive Director. “We hope they will prove useful to our members as well as to medical students and residents in search of guidance to help navigate future relationships.”
