APGO Program Chair

The The Joint Program Committee plans the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting. The APGO Program Chair serves alongside the CREOG Program Chair and works with the Joint Program Committee (Program Chairs, APGO President, CREOG Council Chair, APGO Executive Director, and ACOG Chief for Education) and CREOG & APGO staff to finalize the meeting theme, recommend plenary speakers, and to review submitted abstracts to help create the final program.

The APGO Program Chair duties include:

  • Work with CREOG & APGO staff to finalize the theme and subthemes of the meeting.
  • Attend monthly Joint Program Committee planning calls as well as additional calls to manage the abstract selection process and to discuss other meeting-related plans.
  • Propose keynote speakers to the Joint Program Committee.
  • Invite speakers as approved by the Joint Program Committee (both organizations select speakers).
  • Review and select submitted abstracts (abstracts will be pre-reviewed and scored by volunteer reviewers; APGO & CREOG Program Chairs split submissions).
  • Share/discuss selections with CREOG Program Chair and CREOG & APGO staff.
  • Work with CREOG Program Chair and CREOG & APGO staff to create overall program tracks and determine the order of presentations.
  • Serve as program co-host with CREOG Program Chair during the annual meeting, welcoming attendees to general sessions, announcing awards and other sessions as needed.
  • Represent APGO’s overall interests in planning and executing the meeting, soliciting suggestions for topics and speakers from other APGO committees.

Expectations

  • Know APGO’s mission, values, brand promise, programs, services, strengths, and needs.
  • Commit to serving APGO’s mission, values, and brand promise when participating in APGO activities.
  • Maintain active APGO membership for the duration of service.
  • Have a record of active participation and interest in the association’s activities and objectives. A history of presenting at APGO and other meetings is strongly preferred.
  • Maintain expertise in the subject of ob-gyn medical education and professional development and be aware of current best-practices and key topics.
  • Possess a clear understanding of the position, role of the association management staff, and the need for a close and positive working relationship.
  • Be available to carry out responsibilities including attendance at required meetings.
  • Complete all tasks/projects on time.
  • Bring goodwill, collegiality, openness to diverse opinions, a collaborative spirit, and a sense of humor to the committee’s deliberations.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in committee projects and assignments ensuring all deadlines are met and APGO’s high standards of integrity and quality are maintained.
  • Other ad hoc assignments and opportunities that may present themselves during the Chair’s tenure.

Relationship with Staff

  • Work collegially with designated APGO staff on all Joint Program Committee matters.
  • Avoid asking for special favors of the staff, including requests for extensive information, without at least prior consultation with the executive director, deputy director, or appropriate committee chair.

Time Commitment

The fellowship and collegiality of the committee are central to the successful achievement of its goals; therefore, attendance at all meetings is important. Efforts will be made to establish a meeting cadence with input from the Joint Program Committee, including Program Chairs, that best fits schedules.

The Joint Program Committee meets monthly, with additional meetings scheduled as needed as the meeting approaches. In addition to meetings, the Program Chair will spend time reaching out to potential speakers.

Application Process

APGO members apply for the Program Chair position through a competitive application and interview process. Applications are reviewed by the APGO President and current Program Chair. The APGO President will appoint the selected candidate for a three-year term.
