Tips for a Memorable Presentation
A general session or keynote presentation is your opportunity to connect with a large, multidisciplinary audience. Here are strategies to create an inspiring, memorable, and well-paced presentation:
- Start with Purpose and Presence
- Open with a story, question, or insight that immediately resonates with the audience’s shared experience in medical education or patient care.
- Clearly state your session’s goal in the first 90 seconds—why it matters now.
- Focus on One Core Message
- Identify the single most important idea you want attendees to remember.
- Organize your content around that message—every slide should reinforce it.
- Engage Emotion and Intellect
- Blend data with storytelling. Combine evidence-based insights with relatable experiences or case examples.
- Use your voice, pacing, and eye contact intentionally to sustain energy and attention.
- Design Slides that Support You, Not Compete with You
- Limit slides to one clear idea each. Use large visuals and minimal text.
- Favor strong imagery, clean data displays, and quotes that emphasize your message.
- Keep fonts large (at least 28pt for text) and maintain high contrast for readability.
- Invite Reflection and Connection
- Pose a question or brief activity that prompts the audience to reflect on their own experiences.
- Encourage them to consider how your message applies to their programs, learners, or institutions.
- End with Inspiration and Action
- Close with a powerful takeaway—a challenge, a call to action, or a hopeful vision.
- Leave the audience with “what’s next” rather than “what’s over.”
- Thank them sincerely and acknowledge collaborators or mentors meaningfully.
By blending authenticity, clarity, and emotion, your presentation will not only inform but inspire—setting the tone for a transformative 2026 CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting.
