Lifetime Achievement Award

The Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Lifetime Achievement Award was established by the APGO Board of Directors to recognize exceptional individuals whose sustained commitment and contributions have significantly advanced the goals and mission of the APGO. This honor celebrates those whose enduring leadership and service have strengthened APGO’s impact on education, innovation, and excellence within the field. This award will provide funding for a specific APGO program or initiative selected by the recipient from a list provided by APGO.

Eligibility and Criteria
Only nominees who have demonstrated sustained engagement with and meaningful contributions to APGO will be considered. This includes a long-standing record of advancing APGO’s mission through excellence in ob-gyn medical student or resident education, leadership, and service to the organization.

In addition, nominees must:

  • Be an MD, DO and/or PhD
  • Be a current APGO member (Department, Individual or Life Member)
  • Have held leadership role(s) in APGO*
  • Have achieved senior academic rank, leadership role or position at their home institution

*Past recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Career Achievement Award and current members of the APGO Board of Directors and Development Committee are not eligible for the award.

Nomination Procedure
All current APGO Board and Committee members will be invited to submit a nomination. (Board, Development, Awards Selection Committee, UMEC, TSA Committee, SES Faculty Advisory Committee, ASL Advisory Committee)

To submit a nomination:

  1. Download and complete Memo to Nominee detailing what this award is and what may be asked of them. This memo will be suitable for sharing with the nominee electronically or in person.
  2. Request Nominee’s CV, highlighting APGO activities.

All materials should be collected by the nominating individual and should be scanned and saved as one PDF for the electronic submission of the nomination.

Nominations should be emailed to Marianne Poe.

Selection Process
APGO staff will review nomination packets to ensure eligibility and that packets were submitted as directed. Only packets of eligible candidates that are complete will be shared for review.

The nomination packet will be reviewed for:

  • Contributions have significantly advanced the goals and mission of APGO
  • Enduring leadership and service in APGO have strengthened the Association’s impact on education, innovation, and excellence within the field
  • Commitment to an academic career as evidenced by past activities
  • The importance of the nominee’s work to ob-gyn medical education

APGO will review the nomination packets and choose a finalist. Once completed, the finalist’s nomination packet will be put before the APGO Board of Directors for a vote.

Any member of the APGO Board of Directors who submits a nomination will be expected to recuse themselves from voting.

Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed during the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting.

The recipient will choose the APGO program or initiative from the list provided where they would like to designate their $10,000 award. The funds will be transferred internally to the appropriate account no later than June 30.

The Lifetime Achievement Award Winner will also receive an award statue and letter from the Association.

The winner will receive complimentary registration to the CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting. Up to three guests of the awardee will be welcome to attend the presentation.

The award recipient’s name and head shot will be posted on the APGO website after the award is bestowed.
